US President Donald Trump met New York’s newly elected Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, at the White House on Wednesday, where both leaders discussed a range of shared priorities and future cooperation.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, President Trump described the interaction as “good and productive,” expressing confidence that Mamdani would manage New York’s affairs effectively. “We will support him and provide every possible assistance so he can meet the expectations of the people,” Trump said.

The president added that his satisfaction would grow in direct proportion to Mamdani’s performance as mayor. “The better he manages New York, the happier I will be,” he remarked.

Trump was also asked whether Mamdani might order the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He dismissed the question, saying the topic was not discussed during the meeting. However, he noted that Mamdani’s decisions could surprise many conservatives. “I expect him to shock a few conservatives,” Trump said.

Turning to broader geopolitical issues, Trump credited his earlier diplomatic efforts for peace in the Middle East, claiming that his administration had secured “eight peace deals,” including what he described as an end to war between Pakistan and India.

Trump also said he had no objection to his supporters backing Mamdani, arguing that both men shared a common goal: ending global conflicts. “We both want the same thing — the end of wars,” he said.

Mamdani, who joined Trump at the event, indirectly criticized US policy on funding Israel. Without mentioning the country by name, he said that neither his supporters nor Trump’s believed that American taxpayers’ money should be used to support governments accused of violating human rights.
