Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has warned that the threat of another war with India remains intact, stressing that proxy conflicts between the two countries have never truly ceased.

Speaking to a private news channel, Asif said proxy warfare has been ongoing for decades and has evolved into a key component of modern military strategy. “The proxy war never ended. It began in the 1980s and has only intensified. Lahore and Rawalpindi faced bombings during that era,” he stated.

The minister noted that following the May conflict earlier this year, the risk of a full-scale war was very real. “There was a danger of another war with India immediately after the May battle. That danger has not gone away. The risk of war with India still exists,” he said.

Asif added that international involvement played a crucial role in preventing escalation. “The United States is certifying our victory against India,” he claimed, adding that the American president intervened diplomatically to halt further clashes.

In the May confrontation—referred to domestically as the “Battle of Haq”—Pakistan reportedly shot down seven Indian aircraft, including Rafale jets, and destroyed components of the S-400 air defence system, dealing a significant setback to India’s military posture.

The defence minister said Pakistan remains vigilant, emphasising that the region’s security landscape demands continued readiness and credible deterrence.
