U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a sharp reduction in the number of immigrants eligible to enter the United States for the 2026 fiscal year, setting the cap at just 7,500 visas — the lowest limit in modern American history.
According to international media reports, Trump stated that the decision aims to protect U.S. national interests and ensure that “immigration does not harm America’s prosperity.” He emphasized that the move marks a historic shift in U.S. immigration policy, reducing the overall number of incoming immigrants.
The President also expressed concern for white South Africans, claiming they face “the risk of genocide” in their home country. The administration confirmed that while the annual refugee limit currently stands at 125,000, the new immigration quota would represent a dramatic decrease.
This marks the lowest immigration ceiling since the passage of the Refugee Act of 1980, signaling a significant tightening of entry rules.
