Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and King Abdullah II of Jordan held a significant and wide-ranging meeting in Islamabad, discussing bilateral ties, regional developments, and global challenges. The talks focused on enhancing cooperation in defense, trade, education, technology, investment, and cultural exchange, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the longstanding Pakistan-Jordan partnership.

Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, also attended the meeting and briefed the Jordanian monarch on ongoing defense cooperation, joint training programs, and the security partnership between the two nations.

Both sides expressed a shared desire to expand strategic and economic cooperation, pursue joint ventures, and deepen institutional linkages across multiple sectors. The two leaders also agreed to enhance coordination at regional and international forums.

A major portion of the discussions centered on the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East, particularly the crises in Palestine and Gaza. Pakistan and Jordan reiterated their principled and longstanding positions on Palestinian statehood and called for an immediate end to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the enforcement of a ceasefire, and decisive global action toward lasting peace. They also agreed to accelerate progress on the Gaza peace initiative and strengthen engagement with Arab and Islamic countries.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif briefed King Abdullah II on recent developments in Afghanistan and India, outlining Pakistan’s vision for regional peace and stability.

During the visit, Pakistan and Jordan signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at boosting cooperation in media, culture, and education—steps expected to enhance institutional collaboration between the two nations.

Prime Minister Sharif also hosted a special state dinner in honor of King Abdullah II and his delegation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining high-level exchanges and deepening bilateral engagement in the years ahead.

Calling the visit a testament to enduring friendship, PM Shehbaz Sharif said that King Abdullah’s presence in Pakistan reflects the “deep trust and exemplary ties” shared by the two countries.
