| Replacement Deadline by Two Months / Photo File (Geo News) |
According to an official notification issued by the department, the new deadline is now set for December 31, 2025. The previous deadline, October 31, 2025, had marked the final date for replacing the popular Ajrak-style number plates, which are now being phased out in favor of modern, tamper-resistant plates equipped with enhanced security features.
Department officials stated that the decision was made to accommodate the high number of vehicle owners who had yet to complete the replacement process. The department’s data shows that there are approximately 6.5 million registered motorcycles across Sindh, with over 3.3 million in Karachi alone.
Authorities have also raised concerns over the widespread practice of citizens purchasing motorcycles but continuing to use them under open letters without official transfer or registration — a violation of the law. The department urged all vehicle owners to register their vehicles under their names to avoid penalties and ensure proper recordkeeping.
