American health experts have warned that daily consumption of soft drinks and other sugary beverages can significantly increase the risk of infertility in both men and women.
According to a study published in the medical journal Epidemiology, researchers say lifestyle and dietary habits have a profound impact on human health, influencing not only overall wellbeing but also the ability to conceive.
Scientists from the Boston University School of Public Health conducted a detailed survey involving 3,828 women aged between 21 and 45 from the United States and Canada, along with their spouses. The study closely examined participants’ lifestyle choices, dietary patterns, and medical histories.
Women participating in the research were asked to complete questionnaires every two months, which included questions about their attempts to conceive and pregnancy outcomes. After monitoring the participants for 12 months, researchers found that men and women who consumed higher amounts of soft drinks had a 20 percent lower chance of becoming parents on a monthly basis.
The study highlighted that over the past 50 years, sugar intake in the average American diet has risen sharply, largely due to increased consumption of sweetened carbonated beverages.
Health experts also noted that excessive intake of soft drinks contributes to rapid weight gain and a growing prevalence of diseases such as diabetes. According to researchers, sugary beverages can damage the reproductive systems of both men and women, reducing the likelihood of successful conception.
The findings add to growing evidence that reducing sugar-laden drinks may play an important role in improving reproductive health and overall wellbeing.
