K-Electric Intensifies Crackdown on Power Theft in Orangi Town, Removes Illegal Connections

K-Electric (KE) has intensified its action against electricity theft in Karachi’s Orangi Town, removing nearly 200 kilogrammes of illegal hooked connections, commonly known as kunda, from the Metroville area as part of efforts to reduce distribution losses.

According to KE, the illegal connections were causing an estimated loss of around 350,000 electricity units per month. Enforcement teams dismantled the unauthorised wiring to protect the distribution network and improve supply reliability for paying consumers.

The utility said the latest operation is part of an ongoing campaign in Orangi Town. During the current fiscal year alone, KE teams have conducted 209 kunda-removal drives across the area, targeting 64 power distribution transformers (PMTs). These efforts resulted in the removal of approximately 6,000 kilogrammes of illegal wiring responsible for losses of nearly 11 million units per month.

KE has also carried out targeted operations in several other localities, including Al-Fateh Colony, Abidabad, Sultanabad, Bijli Nagar, Ibrahim Ali Bhai, Ali Garh Bazar, Haryana Colony, and nearby areas. These neighbourhoods continue to report theft-driven losses that damage infrastructure, strain the distribution network, and pose serious safety risks to residents.

KE spokesperson Imran Rana stressed the importance of community cooperation in curbing power theft. He said KE remains committed to eliminating illegal connections and improving loss profiles so residents can benefit from a more reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply.

“We urge citizens to opt for legal, metered connections installed by KE professionals and ensure timely bill payments to receive sustainable power,” Rana said, adding that reducing theft is crucial for improving service quality.

KE has also appealed to community leaders and residents to assist recovery efforts by helping reduce outstanding dues and reporting electricity theft anonymously through KE’s digital platforms or via speakup@ke.com.pk. The company reiterated that curbing theft and improving recoveries are key to minimising load-shedding and ensuring stable power supply across the city.
