U.S. tech giant Microsoft has unveiled a massive new investment plan for India, marking the largest commitment the company has ever made in Asia. On December 9, 2025, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella announced that the company will invest $17.5 billion to strengthen India’s artificial intelligence ecosystem.

The announcement came shortly after Nadella’s meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during what was described as an extensive and forward-looking “conversation” on technology-led development.

According to Microsoft, the investment will focus on several key areas:

  • AI infrastructure development, including next-generation data centers and large-scale cloud expansion.
  • Skills and training programs, particularly the expansion of the ADVANTA(I)GE India initiative, aimed at training millions of people in AI competencies.
  • Advancements in autonomous AI capabilities, helping India build future-ready technologies across sectors.

Nadella highlighted India’s rapid pace of AI-driven innovation and emphasized Microsoft’s commitment to supporting the country’s digital transformation agenda in partnership with the government.

The historic investment is expected to accelerate India’s position as a global AI hub, create new economic opportunities, and significantly boost the nation’s technology capacity in the years ahead.
