US President Donald Trump has strongly condemned the shooting incident that occurred at Bondi Beach in Sydney, describing the attack as horrific and unacceptable.
Addressing a Christmas event at the White House, President Trump said the attack on people at Bondi Beach was deeply disturbing. He reassured the public that those celebrating religious festivals should not live in fear and urged people to mark their holidays with confidence and pride.
The US president also praised a civilian who risked his life to stop the attacker during the incident. Trump described the individual as courageous and worthy of respect, saying his bravery helped save many lives at the scene.
According to Australian media, the attacker was overpowered by a local man who courageously intervened, disarmed the suspect, and prevented further loss of life. The act has been widely hailed as heroic across Australia.
Media reports identified the brave civilian as 43-year-old Ahmed Al Ahmed, a fruit vendor in Sydney and a father of two, whose quick thinking and courage played a crucial role in stopping the attacker.
President Trump also spoke about a separate shooting incident in Syria, stating that an attack on US troops there was carried out by ISIS, not the Syrian government. He warned that those responsible would face severe consequences.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also strongly condemned the Sydney attack, saying there is no place for antisemitism in the world. He expressed solidarity with the victims of the attack, the Jewish community, and the people of Australia.
