YouTube Tests New ‘Create Mode’ to Boost Shorts Production with AI Tools

YouTube’s mobile app was originally designed simply to help users watch videos, but over the years, the platform’s priorities have shifted dramatically. With changing content consumption habits, YouTube is now transforming its app to better support creators—especially in the fast-growing Shorts segment.

In recent years, the company has focused heavily on Shorts to compete with rival platforms and meet creator demands. After partnering with Adobe to simplify short-form video editing, YouTube is now testing another powerful feature designed specifically for creators.

YouTube Begins Testing New “Create Mode”

According to a report by Android Police, Google has started testing a brand-new Create Mode within the YouTube app.

This mode will appear when users tap the plus (+) icon, opening a dedicated space for producing Shorts and other quick content.

Packed with AI Tools for Easy Content Creation

The new Create Mode includes multiple creative tools — including AI-powered features — making it easier for users to produce high-quality Shorts.

Users will reportedly be able to create:

  • Images
  • Video clips
  • Green screen backgrounds
  • Music-backed clips
  • And more

Although Google has not explained exactly how AI will assist in making videos or images, it is expected that users may need to type a prompt to generate content — similar to existing experimental AI tools already available in the YouTube app.

An Extension of YouTube’s Experimental AI Features

YouTube previously introduced experimental AI features for generating images and video ideas. The new Create Mode might work in a similar manner, integrating AI-driven editing, suggestions, and asset creation.

It is still unclear what additional non-AI tools will be included, but the feature appears to be aimed at simplifying creative workflows for all levels of users.

Limited Rollout for Now

YouTube has confirmed that the feature is currently available only to a limited number of users. The purpose of this phase is to test new methods that make creating Shorts faster, easier, and more intuitive.
