Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has accused former U.S. President Donald Trump of being directly responsible for recent violent protests in Iran, alleging foreign involvement behind the unrest that led to deaths and widespread damage.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ayatollah Khamenei said that the casualties, destruction of property, and what he described as “false accusations” against the Iranian people during the protests were the result of actions linked to the United States. He claimed that Trump was personally involved in orchestrating the recent turmoil.
The Iranian leader further alleged that individuals connected to the United States and Israel caused large-scale damage during the protests. He claimed that thousands of people were killed as unrest escalated across the country, without providing specific figures or independent verification.
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that Iran would not allow itself to be dragged into war, but warned that those he called domestic and international criminals would not be spared accountability. “We will not push the country into war, but criminals will not go unpunished,” he said.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs echoed the accusations, stating that peaceful protests in the country were turned violent by what it described as “Zionist-backed terrorists.” The ministry claimed there is “irrefutable evidence” of Israel’s involvement in acts of violence and terrorism.
The foreign office added that Iran would defend its national security against terrorism allegedly sponsored from abroad, reaffirming Tehran’s stance that external forces are exploiting unrest to destabilize the country.
