A Karachi resident has received an unexpected and controversial e-challan for a motorcycle that was stolen nearly two years ago, raising fresh concerns over the city’s electronic traffic enforcement system.

According to details, the owner was issued an e-challan for not wearing a helmet near the National Stadium flyover, despite the fact that the motorcycle had been stolen earlier. The incident is the latest in a series of disputed e-challan cases reported in the city.

The affected citizen stated that his motorcycle was stolen from Liaquatabad on December 7, 2023. He said an FIR was registered with the police, but the vehicle was never recovered. Despite this, he received an e-challan dated December 28, 2025. He has now demanded immediate action for the recovery of his motorcycle and correction of official records.

Meanwhile, revelations have emerged about the use of fake number plates in Karachi to evade heavy e-challans. Such practices have reportedly led to innocent citizens being penalized for violations they did not commit.

In another incident, a citizen named Talha Ahmed received an e-challan on December 27, 2025, for not wearing a helmet near the Governor House, even though his motorcycle was parked at his residence at the time.

Talha Ahmed said the motorcycle shown in the e-challan carried a fake number plate matching his bike’s registration. He clarified that neither the person shown in the footage nor the motorcycle belonged to him.

Traffic police officials stated that affected citizens can contact the help center mentioned on the e-challan. Upon verification, the fine will be canceled and legal action will be taken against those responsible for the violation.
