The United States has seized two oil tankers linked to Venezuelan oil exports, triggering a sharp reaction from Moscow after one of the vessels was reported to be sailing under a Russian flag.

Russia condemned the seizure of the Russian-flagged oil tanker Marinera, demanding that Russian citizens aboard the vessel be treated appropriately and allowed to return home. Moscow said the detention of the tanker in the Atlantic constituted a violation of international maritime law and described

According to Russian officials, the tanker was intercepted after nearly two weeks of pursuit and was stopped between Iceland and Scotland. Foreign media reported that the operation involved air and naval support from the British Royal Navy.

Responding to the allegations, a White House spokesperson said the oil tanker had used a fake flag and that the crew of the Russian vessel would face legal proceedings. The spokesperson added that oil company executives are expected to visit the White House later this week.

The White House further stated that, if required, military forces could be deployed to ensure the protection of oil workers. On Venezuela’s political situation, the spokesperson said it was premature to discuss an electoral timetable, while confirming that the Trump administration remains in contact with Venezuela’s interim authorities.

Addressing broader geopolitical issues, the spokesperson said that “all options are on the table” regarding Greenland, emphasizing that diplomacy remains the preferred first option.

In a related development, a second tanker, MT Sofia, was seized in the Caribbean over alleged involvement in illegal activities, according to officials.

The seizures add to rising tensions surrounding energy exports, maritime security, and international sanctions enforcement involving Venezuela, Russia, and Western allies.
