The Punjab government has approved the recruitment of more than 8,000 teaching interns in government colleges across the province to address faculty shortages and improve educational standards.
According to the Higher Education Department (HED), the new teaching interns will be appointed on a temporary basis to fill vacant posts in various disciplines, ensuring that students in public colleges do not face disruptions in their academic programs.
Officials stated that the recruitment process will be merit-based and transparent, with preference given to qualified candidates holding master’s and MPhil degrees. The monthly stipend for interns has also been revised to make the positions more attractive to young educators.
Punjab’s Education Minister said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the higher education sector by bridging the teacher-student gap. He added that the move will also provide valuable employment opportunities to educated youth across the province.
The recruitment drive is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with HED directing all divisional heads to expedite the process and ensure timely deployment of teaching interns ahead of the new academic session.
